In times of flooding, the first thing to be damaged is usually the carpet. Most experts actually recommend that the carpet be disposed of after it is soaked by water. However, homeowners know that this may not be practical because replacing carpets can put a dent on the budget. Fortunately, there is a way to dry water damage carpet.

The drying should begin within two days of the flooding incident because waiting longer would make it impossible to use the carpet again. By that time, molds and mildew would have already grown. Thus, it is important to get started on the process as quickly as possible.

The first thing needed when it comes to drying carpets is to remove the excess water. Lay out towels on the carpet and apply some pressure into it so more moisture is absorbed. You can even use a wet and dry vacuum cleaner to clean out the water. Make sure that you get as much of the moisture out no matter what option is used. The more you get out, the faster will the process take place. Also, it is vital to soak up as much water as you can to make the carpet when you move on to the second stage.

If ...
... the entire area of your carpet is being repaired, you can take it off the carpet tracks. Place it outdoors so that it can dry out under the sun. Enlist the help of another person because the water damage carpet can be quite heavy. Lay the carpet flat because otherwise, it may warp and be difficult to install again. If only a small area of the carpet is damaged, lift the particular space and check the padding. If it still looks well, then you can allow the carpet to dry indoors.

If the padding is damaged, scrape the padding off using a floor scraper. Make sure that you remove everything to prevent mold from growing. If you already see some, clean it with detergent and hot water. Finally, reinstall the carpet by following the installation procedures of the manufacturer.

Wet carpet drying can be a hard and laborious task. However, if you think about the amount of money you can save from the repair, it is definitely worth the work.
