Five Tips For Ensuring You Get The Most Out Of Computers Within An Office
Many workers have been using the same computer system for some years now and seen it slowing down, as well as experiencing problems loading numerous programs at once. As computers often do, they become filled up with junk, unused documents and programs that simply remain unused.
Under this strain, you will find that even simultaneously opening two programs will become difficult, as well as making the machine overwork, thereby causing overheating, which can cause a serious hardware fault.
This can, however, be avoided by following a few guidelines that can be implemented in a cheap, quick and effective way that requires little technical know-how. These are my top five factors for making the most of office computers:
5. Delete unnecessary programs and De-fragment the drives regularly - Office computer users will sometimes have to install programs that are for a single use and never again opened. Even when not used for some time, some programs will open themselves at start-up, taking up valuable space and memory - however these can generally be uninstalled easily or disabled at start-up. In the Control Panel ...
... of the computer, you will find 'uninstall a program', which is the easiest way to remove programs, or for disabling at start-up, run msconfig.exe, go to start up tab and un-tick unnecessary programs.
4. External storage - Whatever work the office does, it is vitally important to frequently backup documents and other data, in case of drive malfunction. With an external hard drive, this is easily achievable as they are available at a low price and with a large storage space. This hardware is the perfect way to store a number of documents for use on other computers in the future.
3. Purchase another router. Most companies today will use online facilities; whether they are building and maintaining sites or simply providing content, the world wide web is an integral part of a number of businesses. This can lead to many computers using the same hardware to connect, which can cause speed and connections to drop. However with two routers, you will notice a significant increase in internet speed and wireless reach.
2. Keep desktop minimal, compare your desktop screen to your work desk. You will work much better if you can keep it tidy and make effective use of the space. Sort your folders properly and for extra organisation, separate them by date. This will not produce a great speed increase for your computer but it will make planning and browsing documents a great deal easier.
1. Using the latest Operating Systems. Whilst this might seem like an expensive measure, keeping the OS of your computer updated can provide a significant benefit. Advancing software is a key part of computing, so keeping an updated OS is a must. I have worked in Seattle office space where Windows 7 was shunned in favour of Windows XP. However, by using Windows 7, you will have an increased security system and frequent dedicated updates.
There are a plethora of methods with which to increase the speed of computers - a percentage of which may prove time-consuming to install; however all are worth it as they will simplify work and improve employee morale and overall productivity.
