Mooney's eighth characteristic is an upper case W with wide curved approach strokes, a form not recorded at all in Trinity 244 according to Fletcher: 'The more florid variety of Pynkhurst W/w, formed with wide curved approach strokes at the tops of the left and central down-strokes of the letter, is not found in Trinity 244' (p. 608).

Fletcher attempts to compensate for this lack by conflating this category with other forms of looped W/w, although this is further complicated by the fact that Trinity 244 abandons the looped form after folio 7v in favor of a secretary form in which no portion of the letter ascends above minim height, a form not recorded in any Pynkhurst production.

The ninth feature, a tendency to exaggerate ascenders of b, f, h, k, and 1 has no substantial counterpart in Trinity 244. Features ten to twelve Shoes Online are all found in Trinity 244, although Fletcher himself concedes in each case ...
... that none of these is particularly idiosyncratic and all can be paralleled in numerous contemporary hands.

The first of the two decorative features conflated as the thirteenth feature is the tremolo and knot placed next to exaggerated ascenders, catchwords and boxes. This feature is not found in Trinity 244. Nor is the second feature, the double slash and dot decoration frequently applied to sweeping extensions and heavy strokes.

Mooney describes this feature as 'so distinctive to Pynkhurst as to be virtually a signature'12; its absence from Trinity 244 therefore considerably undermines its attribution to Pynkhurst.

Fletcher attempts to circumvent this problem by claiming that the flourishes that are found in Trinity 244 are in fact 'another Pynkhurstian decorative habit in their own right', but one which the scribe used sparingly, citing his copy of Langland's Piers Plowman, Trinity College, Cambridge B.15.17, in support.

But the fact that this feature appears in just one of the manuscripts attributed to Pynkhurst makes it a very unhelpful criterion for identification and it must surely be discounted for the purposes of the argument being made here.

Fletcher concludes from his paleographical analysis that just three of these characteristic features are absent, or virtually absent in Trinity 244.

However, of those discussed in his previous analysis the following are not found at all: the second form of uppercase A; the decorative dilated D; W with wide curved lead-in strokes at tops of the left and central down strokes; exaggerated Discount Shoes ascenders of b, f, h, k, 1; tremolo and knot; double slash and dot. There are thus a total of six features listed by Mooney as characteristic of the hand of this scribe that are entirely absent from Trinity 244.

In addition to these, Fletcher's analysis shows that a number of those features that are found in Trinity 244 are only loosely connected to the form described by Mooney. So the third type of A is represented by a form which 'very occasionally... approaches, although is not quite fully commensurate with' the form identified by Mooney.
