If you own a swimming pool then you know that if you fail to maintain the water on a regular basis then you'll end up with slimy green water. This is the result of algae which grow in the water and begins to adhere to the swimming pool liner. If you create a schedule for cleaning your water and stick to it then you'll be able to take a dip in your pool whenever you wish without having to worry about infections you could get from germs lurking in the water.

Buying a water testing kit is an excellent idea. This will tell you what the chemical balance in your pool is and how it should be adjusted to keep the water sparkling clean. Use the kit to test the water on a regular basis since varying environmental conditions affect the water and its precise chemical balance.

Gusty winds and extended periods of rainfall can precipitate changes in your pool, causing the swimming pool chemicals to break down more rapidly than they otherwise would. Hot and humid weather has a similar effect, leading to faster chemical reactions. One of the best ways to deal with this problem is to give your pool shock treatments to bring ...
... the water back into balance.

Of course, pool chemicals aren't the only solution to dirty pool water. It's also necessary to physically clean your swimming pool regularly. Using a brush to remove algae and dirt from the swimming pool liner is recommended and you should use a quality vacuum to clean the bottom of the pool. There are automatic robot vacuums that can do this tedious job for you: just place the robot in the pool when you're not using it and you're free to go do something else. Also, you'll need to skim any debris that might be floating on the surface of the pool to make sure it doesn't clog the vacuum.

Your swimming pool filter is also a necessary part of keeping your pool water clean and safe. Check your filter often to make sure it isn't clogged or damaged by excess debris. If yours is a paper filter, change it regularly and keep a pile of spare filters handy. If you have a sand filter, it should be backwashed frequently to keep it functional and effective.
