Utah's minimum wage payroll increased from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour, as of 2009. Exceptions include outside salespersons, some agricultural employees, some seasonal employees, apprentices and students employed by and enrolled in an educational institution, and individuals who are classified as disabled. Utah follows what the federal minimum wage rate is, which means that it changes with it every year and is enacted on the very same date. The only exception is that Utah labor law extends to smaller businesses, whereas the federal law does not. Currently no federal minimum wage payroll increase is planned for 2010.

Not all states have enacted the minimum wage payroll law, but the majority have. Utah is one of 45 states which has enacted it. Under the Utah Labor Commission, the Utah Minimum Wage Act details the requirements for employers to pay minimum wage, including any exemptions which might be in place.

... may file a claim with this unit. The Utah Labor Commission also encompasses the Division of Industrial Accidents, which controls the Workers Compensation program. This program monitors all businesses in the state to ensure they are complying with state law which requires that employees are provided workers' compensation insurance.

The Utah Payment of Wages Act details the specific requirements for paying wages to employees. It also addresses employers' responsibilities regarding payroll Utah deposits, paydays, paychecks, deductions, wage disputes, and payroll records. Under law, Utah employees must be paid at least semimonthly.

In an effort to improve processes for payroll Utah has in place, the state ensures that payroll service providers keep businesses and corporations informed when new payroll and tax policies are implemented by the United States government. When it comes to payroll Utah stays ahead of the game.
