Auditions For Extras? Not anymore! Since film-making began every director has made their demands on the precise characteristics that actors give, hence why they hold thousands and thousands of auditions for main characters and extras. This has made every film so precise, so correct and so real. When a scene needs to be shot there will always be the exact amount of fully trained people to look and act the part to make everything flawless.

Clearly, something is going wrong and the directors just do not like it anymore. Perhaps it is too much like hard work, what with all the audition process and all. So there is a new invention: the doll! Rather than these true to life movies containing real people, now there will be an out of proportion Barbie doll catching everyone's attention! It seems a crazy idea for films of such quality, but maybe the time demands of auditions and the cost of employing extras means that film studios just have to resort to the plastic doll!

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is due out later this summer, with a load of dolls appearing on screen as pirate extras. Well maybe I'm joking, but just imagine ...
... if I hadn't of been! Just picture, now when you go to see this film, replacements of the low key pirates being Barbie's and Kens and maybe even a Bratz doll! It seems out of this world, but it is all so true. Films are shown in 3D for one main reason, right: to appear a whole lot more realistic! I am not all that convinced that adding dolls to this for no apparent reason would give the same effect. But hey, we can let them try it out: it may even raise a chuckle for us!

I guess, really, that these dolls aren't quite going to be as unrealistic as I have mentioned above but it is still the same principal. These dolls should be, I'm presuming, customized to exact detail and appearance as would be held on an audition description. I'm sure they may even hold the correct posture whilst being filmed. Yet, what happens to the action? Can dolls really move that well: as realistically as humans? I would say maybe not. And things like that are disturbing when you think of how they may break their fame in films like Pirates of the Caribbean: the action scenes (and any water scenes) won't be too good for them. Their peculiar movements may be enough to cut it in the next Barbie film flying around on some unicorn and meeting Prince Charming, but surely not enough for what are supposed to be action packed films of good value and realism. Who knows? By the sounds of it, it may be the new craze come next year!

Does this then mean that films like Toy Story will feature real humans? It seems disastrous to take this tradition of animation away from such a famous film, but it may have to go this way else we will have no human featured films! I guess we will see what happens in a while...
