Benidorm Hoteliers Stand Up To Thomas Cook-00-7519

The Hoteliers Association, based in Alicante on the Costa Blanca, HOSBEC, has reacted angrily to the formal public statement from the British tour operator, Thomas Cook, that they are unilaterally going to decrease the price they recompense on their all their contracts and bills by 5% from next Monday.

A Hosbec spokesman said that unilateral decision was communicated to them by telephone, with the assert that the cut was necessitated to guarantee the economical viability of the constitution and to ascertain profits this season.

Hosbec has now put the matter in the hands of the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation, and has similarly been in touch with lawyers who are said to be specialists in global hotel contracts.

Hosbec, which represents nearly all the hoteliers in Benidorm, the Costa Blanca's main resort which is very popular with the British, said they consider the move ‘unjustifiable' and that it was ‘unjust' to expect Spanish hoteliers to help such exercises.

The Costa Blanca hoteliers are similarly concerned that the measure could be a dangerous precedent and be copied by other tour operators. Hosbec said that all their humane and legal resources would be at the disposition of their hotelier members.
