Keeping rabbits outdoors in winter can be difficult at times. Any extreme changes in weather conditions can harm rabbits. In extreme heat and cold, rabbits can die or become infected by cold related sickness. To keep the rabbits safe, some precautions must be taken. It is important that you should know what to do to make your rabbits warm during the cold months of winter.

To make the hutch safe from the cold weather and strong winds, it must be located in an area where it is adequately sheltered. A tin roof is appropriate in cold weather. The hutch must be well made with wooden and wire materials intended to help keep the hutch warm. To make this possible, a canvas covering must be provided. All the sides of the hutch must be covered during windy days and cold nights.

The rabbits must also be kept from getting wet because once their bodies get wet, it will be hard for them to keep warm. The risk of them getting wet from their water dishes should be eliminated by making sure that the dish is securely attached to the side of the hutch to avoid it from getting stepped on and spilled. A wire bottommed cage will be ...

Providing your rabbits with water can be a challenge during the cold months. Water freezes easily during winter and it is better to put their drinking water in a container that has a large opening like a dish rather than in a bottle or tube. Heat the dish before giving water to your rabbits to keep water from freezing longer. Fill the dish with fresh clean water every day to ensure a constant supply of water for your rabbits to keep them from getting dehydrated.

To avoid spillage, put the water container in a secure area inside the hutch. Check the water constantly to make sure that it is not frozen. A sheltered hutch will keep the water from freezing for longer periods.

Keeping the rabbits warm during the cold months is necessary so that they will survive. It is up to you to provide them with a safe place to stay during the cold months of winter.
