Importance Of The Ndt In Industries

Non Destructive Testing or NDT is basically a varied cluster of analysis techniques used in various industries including Automotive, Aerospace, Nuclear, Petrochemical, Paper and Pharmaceutical to evaluate the conditions of different materials, components or systems. Industrial organizations all across the world use this technique to find the defect of the components and then rectify them. NDT is a very valuable technique for the engineering industries because it not only helps in minimizing the cost that they have to bear if machinery fails due to some defect in material or component but also saves the time which they have to invest in the product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research. The biggest advantage of this process is that it does not cause any alterations to the material or object on which it is applied.
There are various methods of the non- destructive testing. Some of them are as follows:
Ultrasonic testing is mostly used for the detection of flaws & corrosion and can be carried out using different equipments. Aerospace and the Pipeline industries make use of Electromagnetic Acoustic Transmission ...
... (EMAT) while Refining & Petrochemical sector uses Phased Array equipment to perform this testing. Ultrasonic testing is carried out in three steps. These are as follows:
Passing an ultrasonic wave from a probe to the material to be tested
Determining the internal flaw in the material by studying the reflected echo
Finding out the condition of the detected flaw by comparing the frequency components of the transmitted ultrasonic wave and the reflected echo
In Magnetic particle inspection method magnetic lines of force or Magnaflux are created around the object to be tested. Any distortion in these lines indicates us about the presence of the defect. Magnetic Particle Testing proves very effective if you want to find the surface and sub-surface flaws of the ferromagnetic materials.
Eddy-current testing is used to find the minor cracks on the surface of the conductive materials through electromagnetic induction.
Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI or PT) is used to locate cracks, voids and other surface breaking flaws in non porous materials. One of the hallmarks of this method of testing is that through its help we can inspect large surface areas at low cost.
Non-destructive testing is one of the most effective methods of testing of the components and materials in highly competitive prices. No industry can run longer stretch of time without conducting this type of testing. Browse through www.abcndt.com for more info.
