There's virtually nothing you cannot get to satisfy your tastes in Schwabing. You have a wide range of choices to make no matter what your preferences are; theatre arts, shopping, academics, recreation, even shopping or for that matter, cheap holidays. Schwabing has got it all. So you can imagine my delight at the opportunity to visit this thriving part of Munich. Actually, I was in Munich for some business and decided to throw in some tourism into the mixyou never know when the opportunity to enjoy the cheapest holidays Munich has to offer will arise again.

I booked my reservation in a nice and cute inn, the Holiday Inn, Munich North. I was impressed with its great standards as well as the proximity to the Münchener Freiheit, the Underground Station. It is also strategically located at the center of Schwabing. If you know anything about Schwabing, then you must have heard about the Englischer Garten (English Garden). I will fill you in on that as I decided to save it for the last. ...
... I first visited the Glyptothek, which contains a collection of Greek and Roman sculpture, reputed to be the largest in all of Germany. If you are short on funds, save your visit for Sundays, it is free then! It's a truly beautiful collection and was made available to the public again in 1972 after renovation following significant destruction during the Second World War. The Alte Pinakothek is another place that contains a vast collection of the masterpieces made in the period spanning the 14th - 18th centuries. I was so eager to see the Ruben's Collection which is said to be the largest in the world that I gladly paid the higher fee payable during the week instead of waiting till Sunday. Artwork by Udo and Annette Brandhorst are also available at the Museum Branhorst. I really wanted to see these contemporary artwork, having seen a lot f the older ones. It is a truly beautiful collection of modern art.

You will have missed out on what probably counts as the best cuisine in Munich if you don't visit the Tantris. It is reputed to have Germany's best chef in its employ so you can't possibly go wrong by stopping to eat here. Don't let the bill frighten you, it's worthwhile. I had the pleasure of satisfying my taste buds at the Tantris and I was too happy to pay the price for such a great meal.

Okay, now to my exploration of the Englischer Garten. If you think the New York's Central Park is large, you are in for a shocker here because the Englischer Garten is more than two times the size of the Central Park. It seemed to me like there wasn't anything that couldn't be seen in this extraordinary park. I saw people jogging and others cycling. There were those that were roller-skating, skate-boarding and even some people horse riding. The most amazing sight was that of a shepherd, complete with his flock right in the park! Thinking back now, I doubt if my feet would have forgiven me for missing out on this park.
