Most affiliate tracking tools charge brands £50 to £300 a month from day one. For a new programme with a handful of partners, that bill often arrives before the first commission does.

I'm Maxime Yao, a final-year business student at the University of Exeter. My dissertation looks at what makes affiliate programmes grow, and affiliate managers I've interviewed keep describing the same pattern: a few "super affiliates" drive most of the revenue, and the fixed software cost is hardest to justify in the early months.
