Training your employees regularly with safety programs does not eradicate all the possibilities of a fatality or an accident. What employers should keep in mind along with providing training courses to the workers, is that maintaining a safe environment in and around the work place is extremely important.

Many employees take OSHA 10 hour courses to keep themselves safe at work places. But it is not enough. Safety measures should be taken in order to avoid mishaps. Following are some of the very basic ways to keep your workplace safe and hazard-free. These may even help you abide by the safety rules and regulations laid down by OSHA:

1.One of the very basic rules to be followed in keeping any work place safe is cleanliness. This not only helps keep your area secure for workers, but also helps them feel more productive and enthusiastic about work.
2.Rely on guards and engineering solutions rather than forcing the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Before that, make sure your workers do not face any exposure to threat and danger. Even if there is a possibility, don't make them uncomfortable by using PPE. ...

5.Do not concentrate on only the major accident cases. Take into account the most common incidents too. See what can be done to avoid such incidents and take adequate measures for the same.
6.Don't take your employees for granted. Understand that their safety is of prime importance and do all that you can to ensure it. If a machine or equipment goes wrong, repair it as soon as possible. Replace it if it is beyond repair and make sure nobody uses it before you do something about it.
7.Learn how your employees do their work. You might have done the same job but there might be cases where your employee does the same job in a different way than you. Find out why it is so. See if your workers are following the procedures provided by you or are doing things their own way. Look into the matter and find out the reason to why this is happening.
8.The machinery should be kept in good working condition. In many cases, workers assume it normal for machines to wear and continue working with it. This can be dangerous. Carry out regular inspections to check out the wear and damages of the machines.

Remember, prevention is always better than cure. Avoid anything that may pose as a potential hazard. Also, encourage your workers to take up OSHA 10 hour courses to make themselves more vigilant about their safety and health.
