How To Choose A Laser Hair Removal Machine For Your Clinic: A Buyer's Guide
Laser hair removal is one of the most requested treatments in aesthetic clinics across Pakistan. Buying the wrong machine is also one of the most expensive mistakes a clinic owner can make. After 20 years of supplying and installing aesthetic equipment, here's what I tell every clinic before they buy.
1. Match the wavelength to your clients' skin types
Most clients in South Asia have Fitzpatrick skin types III to V. An 808nm diode laser, or a triple-wavelength diode (755/808/1064nm), treats these skin types safely and works well. Alexandrite (755nm) machines work fast on lighter skin but carry more risk on darker tones. Nd:YAG (1064nm) is the safest choice for very dark skin.
2. Check the cooling system
Good contact cooling, such as a sapphire tip or TEC cooling, keeps treatments comfortable and lowers the risk of burns. Ask what temperature the handpiece reaches and whether it holds that temperature through a full day of sessions.
3. Ask about handpiece life and running costs
The diode laser bars in the handpiece wear out over time. Ask how many shots the handpiece is rated for and what ...
... a replacement costs. A cheaper machine with a short-lived handpiece often costs more over three years.
4. Consider refurbished machines from established brands
A properly refurbished machine from a known brand can deliver results close to new at a much lower price. The key word is "properly": ask for test reports, a list of replaced parts, and a warranty.
5. Don't ignore after-sales support
Every laser needs servicing at some point. Before buying, ask: Is there a local engineer who can visit your clinic? Are spare parts kept in stock in Pakistan? Is staff training included? A machine that sits idle for three weeks waiting for a part from abroad loses you far more than the price difference.
6. Look at the total investment, not just the price tag
Add up the machine price, consumables, handpiece replacements, servicing and training. Then work out how many sessions you need to break even. A reliable mid-range machine usually pays for itself faster than a cheap one that keeps breaking down.
Final thoughts
The right machine depends on your client base, your budget and the support available near you. If you're setting up or upgrading a clinic, compare several options and ask for a live demo before you decide.
