You may have heard the term IT Support many times, but you equally still might not have a clue what it means. If this is accurate, then don't worry as you are not alone, as many individuals are in the same place, not having the remotest idea what it means. There is however, every possibility that you have used an IT support centre in some shape or form, you just didn't realise it.

The world we live in today is a computerised world, it is a world of advancement and this means computers and the use of Information technology (IT). It support is often called technical support, although often the support is so technical it leaves many cold and even more confused. Especially when we speak about support for televisions video recorders interactive entertainment boxes and even mobile phones.

The aim of these IT Support centres is to offer consumers and businesses with solutions to their problems, most providers today offer technical support for their own goods, but is this true in the world of Computers and business computers? The straight forward answer is no.

Hardware: is the name given to anything that is physical, such as the case, the hard drive, memory, graphics card, motherboard, and even a scanner or printer.

Software: is the computer programmes that either run the hardware, or perform some other task. frequently known software is Microsoft Windows which is an operating system. Microsoft office, which is a package containing word processing software (Word), spreadsheet software (Excel), and database software and email software. Anyone who has been online will have used a Web Browsing software, such as internet Explorer, or firefox for example.

Software and hardware are great when they are going right, but it is when they are going wrong that it gets painful. Who do you turn to when you get a problem? Well home users can take their machine off to a local retailer and get them to look at it. Business people however have more urgent needs. For them time is of the essence, time is money!

This is where a dedicated IT support contractor or company can step into the breach and rescue you. There is such a thing as remote support. And that does just what it says on the tin. Remote support allows your IT support provider to access your machine from where they are instantly without you waiting, no travelling, just straight in. In most cases they can fix your problems in that way, in others a visit might be needed. But what IT support does is ensure you never have the dreaded what do I do now thought.

IT support isn't just about Solving things AFTER they have gone batty, it is also very much about making sure things don't go wrong in the first place. This is achieved by updating your software remotely (as mentioned above). making sure that your virus and firewall protection is up to date and working properly. Ensuring that your hardware and software are working without conflict.
