The survey assesses the potential for installing LED lamps by calculating the building's current lighting electricity consumption and recommending LED options to reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions. The recommendations given take into account lighting design, investment costs and payback period.

LED is currently the light source that offers the best payback, which can be as short as two and a half years, and in some cases this can result in an electricity cost saving of 85%. Thanks to huge improvements in the quality and coloring of LEDs it is now also possible to achieve a similar lighting effect that can be achieved with conventional lamp types, but with significant energy and cost saving benefits.
