Have you ever stood in front of a piece of art and felt like it was speaking directly to you? That’s how many visitors describe an afternoon spent with BC art at the Audain Art Museum. Set in the heart of Whistler, the Museum tells the evolving story of British Columbia’s art, from historic masterpieces to contemporary works.
It’s the sort of place that makes you slowdown in the best way. The mountains outside the windows and the art inside seem to be in quiet conversation the whole time you’re there, and that connection is a big part of what makes a visit so memorable.
Why art in BC feels so different
The coast, the forest, and the diverse communities of people that have called this land home are the sources for Art in BC. It is a true sense of place, found in the Permanent Collection for all to enjoy, with works in painting, carving, photography, and more. As you wander through the galleries, discover the evolution of the province and its people.
Highlights you can look forward to
So, what’s waiting for you inside? The collection covers a ...
... lot of ground, but a few pieces tend to stop visitors in their tracks.
●Emily Carr’s War Canoes, Alert Bay (1912), which captures the West Coast through her unmistakable eye.
●Beau Dick’s Dzongkha Mask (2007), a striking example of First Nations carving from the coast.
●James Hart’s The Dance Screen (The Scream Too), a powerful carved work created between 2010 and 2013.
● Photography and contemporary pieces that show how today’s artists see life in British Columbia.
Exhibitions worth planning around
Our museum doesn't just serve up permanent collections; we also host temporary exhibitions to ensure each visit is new. Current exhibitions include Solstice Through Storm & Stillness on view until 12 April 2027 and Eleven Painters Start a War, opening on 20 November 2026 and on show until 3 May 2027. There's always another reason to visit.
Arrange a visit
The Museum is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which makes a visit easy to incorporate into a mountain weekend. You can take a guided tour to gain more insight or take the family during Sunday art for kid’s sessions.

Before you go, check out books, artwork, and home décor items made by local artists that showcase the imaginative spirit of British Columbia in the Museum Shop. It's a peaceful and inspiring place to experience BC art, and you'll likely leave with a fresh perspective of the province.
