Hdpe Pipe For Borewell: Common Installation Mistakes

A borewell installation that fails early is more often let down by the wrong pipe choice than by the pipe itself.

Kasta HDPE pipes, made to IS 4984:2016 and part of the Agriculture range, are offered in PE63, PE80 and PE100 material grades and in pressure ratings from PN2 up to PN20. The first mistake worth avoiding is matching the pipe to the pump's rated pressure rather than to the actual working pressure at depth, including the static head of the water column itself. A pipe rated below that combined pressure will show stress well before its expected service life.

The second mistake is ignoring bend radius during installation. HDPE pipe is flexible by design, which reduces the number of fittings needed, but forcing it into a bend tighter than the manufacturer's radius puts a permanent stress point into the wall of the pipe at exactly the spot most likely to fail later.

The third is weak fusion jointing. HDPE pipe depends on a clean, properly heated fusion joint for its full-length strength, and a rushed joint, done without matching temperature and dwell time, is usually where a borewell line eventually ...
... opens up underground where it cannot be inspected easily.

For borewell depths with high static pressure, PE100 in a higher PN rating is the safer choice over a lower grade pipe bought mainly to save on cost. Casing pipe, covered in Enhancing Borewell Performance with Kasta Column Pipes, is worth checking alongside HDPE for the same borewell.
