In Hindu tradition, the Navagrahangal are the nine celestial forces—Surya, Chandra, Chevvai, Budha, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu—worshipped together in many temples. Each deity has a distinct identity, symbolism and traditional association, making a Navagraha brass idol set meaningful for devotional and traditional spaces.
1. Surya – The Sun God
Surya represents light, vitality, strength and clarity, and is traditionally regarded as the source of life and energy. In Navagraha worship, devotees pray to Surya for confidence, discipline and physical and spiritual strength.
2. Chandra – The Moon God
Chandra is traditionally associated with the mind, emotions, calmness and nourishment. Worship of Chandra is believed in tradition to encourage emotional balance, peace of mind and a composed nature.
3. Chevvai – Mangala / Mars
Chevvai, or Mangala, is associated with courage, strength, determination and action. In traditional astrology, his influence is connected with energy and assertiveness, making him a significant deity in Navagraha worship.
4. Budha – Mercury

5. Guru – Brihaspati / Jupiter
Guru, also known as Brihaspati, is associated with wisdom, knowledge, spirituality and guidance. In Hindu tradition, Guru is revered as a teacher figure, and his worship is connected with learning, righteousness and good judgment.
6. Shukra – Venus
Shukra is traditionally connected with beauty, relationships, comforts, refinement and prosperity. Devotees associate Shukra worship with harmony, artistic appreciation and a balanced enjoyment of life's material blessings.
7. Shani – Saturn
Shani is associated in Hindu tradition with discipline, responsibility, justice and the consequences of actions. Rather than representing only difficulties, Shani is also understood as teaching patience, humility, self-control and perseverance.
8. Rahu – The North Lunar Node
Rahu is one of the two shadow planets in the Navagraha tradition and is associated with ambition, sudden changes, desires and worldly influences. Devotional traditions often turn to Rahu worship for spiritual strength when facing uncertainty, confusion or unexpected circumstances.
9. Ketu – The South Lunar Node
Ketu represents the other shadow planet and is traditionally linked with detachment, spiritual insight, introspection and liberation. Its symbolism encourages devotees to look beyond material attachment and develop deeper self-awareness.
Conclusion
The nine Navagrahangal each represent a different divine and symbolic aspect: Surya represents vitality, Chandra the mind, Angaraka courage, Budha intelligence, Guru wisdom, Shukra prosperity, Shani discipline, Rahu ambition and Ketu spiritual detachment.
A traditional Navagraha bronze idol set from Idol Bronze preserves these distinctive forms while bringing together the artistic richness of South Indian devotional sculpture.
