A small manufacturer with relatively simple operations may manage effectively with Excel and accounting software. A useful question one needs to ask to understand if it is the right time:

Are people spending more time collecting, reconciling, and correcting information than using it to make decisions?

If the answer is yes, then it may be time to evaluate ERP options.

Moving to ERP is not simply a software purchase. Manufacturers should first map their existing processes and identify the problems they want to solve.
