Express Annapurna Base Camp Trek: Essential 7-day Itinerary
Reaching the high-altitude glacial heart of the Annapurna Massif usually takes nearly two weeks. However, with modern road access pushing deeper into the Modi Khola valley, trekkers with limited time can complete the Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek 7 Days route without missing out on the dramatic high-mountain scenery.
By taking a private 4WD jeep from Pokhara directly to Samrung, this itinerary bypasses lower elevation village walks and focuses on the iconic ascent through the Annapurna Sanctuary up to 4,130 meters.
Key Trek Details
Duration: 7 Days (Pokhara to Pokhara)
Maximum Altitude: 4,130 m / 13,549 ft (Annapurna Base Camp)
Difficulty Level: Moderate to Strenuous
Starting/Ending Point: Pokhara, Nepal
Accommodation: Local Teahouses / Mountain Lodges
Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 01: Drive Pokhara to Samrung; Trek to Upper Sinuwa
Drive Time: 3 hours (4WD Jeep)
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Max Elevation: 2,340 m
The journey begins early in Pokhara with a scenic jeep ride through Lumle and Nayapul, following the roaring Modi Khola River ...
... up to Samrung via Jhinu Danda. Crossing the suspension bridge at Samrung, you start trekking immediately with a steep stair climb up to the picturesque Gurung village of Chhomrong. After descending the famous Chhomrong stone steps, cross the river and make a final push uphill to Upper Sinuwa for your first overnight stay.
Day 02: Trek Upper Sinuwa to Deurali
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Max Elevation: 3,230 m
Leave Sinuwa to enter a dense bamboo, oak, and rhododendron forest. The trail stays high above the river, passing through small settlement stops at Bamboo and Dovan. As you approach Hotel Himalaya, the canopy thins into open alpine valley views. The final stretch takes you up through rocky canyon terrain to Deurali, tucked beneath the sheer rock walls of the valley.
Day 03: Trek Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) via MBC
Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Max Elevation: 4,130 m
Ascend gradually through avalanche-prone stretches along the riverbed toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) at 3,700 m. After taking a short rest surrounded by the iconic peak of Fishtail Mountain, turn westward into the vast Annapurna Sanctuary amphitheater. The gradual 2-hour walk from MBC to Short Annapurna Base Camp offers sweeping 360-degree views of Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Baraha Shikhar.
Day 04: Sunrise at ABC; Trek down to Bamboo
Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Max Elevation: 4,130 m (Descending to 2,310 m)
Wake up early to watch the first rays of sunlight hit the golden wall of Annapurna I. After photos and a warm breakfast, retrace your steps out of the sanctuary. Because gravity is on your side, the descent is much faster. You will head back down through MBC, Deurali, and Dovan, finishing the long trekking day in Bamboo.
Day 05: Trek Bamboo to Jhinu Danda
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Max Elevation: 2,310 m (Descending to 1,780 m)
Climb back up the steep stone steps to Upper Sinuwa and continue down into the Chhomrong valley before tackling the short climb into Chhomrong village. From Chhomrong, take the descending trail straight down to Jhinu Danda. In the afternoon, take a 20-minute walk down to the banks of the Modi Khola to relax your tired muscles in the natural hot springs.
Day 06: Trek Jhinu Danda to Samrung; Drive to Pokhara
Trekking Time: 30 minutes
Drive Time: 3 hours
Max Elevation: 1,780 m (Descending to 820 m)
Enjoy a relaxed morning before a short walk across the suspension bridge to Samrung. Meet your private jeep for the drive back to Pokhara. Spend the afternoon exploring Lakeside Pokhara, boating on Phewa Lake, or relaxing at a cafe.
Day 07: Drive or Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu
Travel Time: 6–7 hours (Bus/Drive) or 25 minutes (Flight)
Max Elevation: 1,350 m
Transfer back to Kathmandu either by a scenic overland tourist bus drive along the Prithvi Highway or via a quick domestic flight across the Himalayan range, completing your 7-day adventure.
Essential Preparation & Tips
Pacing & Altitude: Gaining elevation rapidly from Pokhara to 4,130 meters requires disciplined hydration (3–4 liters of water daily) and a slow, consistent hiking pace.
Permits: You will need both the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) entry permit and a Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) card prior to starting.
Gear: Pack lightweight thermal layers, a rated down jacket (-10°C to -15°C), sturdy broken-in boots, trekking poles to protect your knees on the descent, and a headlamp for early morning starts.
