Ways Of Maintaining Your Chicken Coops

A well maintained chicken coop is key to a successful chicken raising or egg laying business. While chickens do not need a lot of things, they do need to be fed and given fresh water in order for them to lay more eggs. They depend largely on their owners to provide them with food and water to make them healthy. If they are allowed to roam around the farm, feeding them will not be a problem but today's chickens are always kept inside the coop where their feeding is regulated to help them become healthier and lay more eggs. Below are some of the things you can do to maintain your chicken coop.
Caring For The Chickens:
To keep the chickens healthy they must be provided with food and water. In an ideal coop setting there is a schedule of when to feed the chickens, when to give them water, and when to give them vitamins and other medications. To have high quality eggs and meat, the chickens must be given foods that are highly nutritious even it costs more than other feeds that have lesser nutrients.
Cleaning and maintaining the materials used in feeding the chickens is a must to avoid having a dirty coop which ...
... can attract germs and bacteria that can cause sickness. The safety of the chickens inside the coop must be ensured so check the coop for any holes where the chickens can exit or predators can get in. Make a constant head count to check if a chicken or two has managed to get away.
Coop Cleaning:
Chicken droppings smell bad and they do accumulate fast. It can invite bacteria and germs that can bring disease to your chickens so it is important to dispose of chicken droppings regularly. It is better to have a floor made of cement or concrete for your chicken coop because this will make cleaning and disposing of their wastes easier.
A concrete floor is easier to clean than any other type of floor and the clean-up must be done every two to three months. The droppings can be used as fertilizer for your plants. The most pleasant job in a chicken coop is collecting the eggs which should be done every day.
Repairing The Chicken Coop:
At one point or another, a part of the coop structure might get torn or damaged. You need to repair this immediately to make the coop safe for your chickens. Make sure that everything is secure and safe for your chickens.
