Learning How to Use Saffron properly can make a noticeable difference in Indian recipes. Kesar is generally required in very small quantities, so the preparation method matters more than simply adding extra strands.

Start by taking around 5–10 saffron strands and placing them in one or two tablespoons of warm milk or water. Allow them to soak for approximately 10–15 minutes. During this period, the liquid begins taking on saffron's characteristic colour and aroma. Add the entire mixture to your recipe rather than discarding the strands.

Saffron for Biryani is commonly infused in warm milk and then drizzled over the rice. This distributes the saffron more evenly instead of concentrating it in one part of the dish.

For kheer, phirni or halwa, add the soaked saffron during cooking so that its aroma blends with the other ingredients. It can similarly be incorporated into barfi, peda and selected baked preparations.

Another important consideration is storage. Saffron should be protected from moisture, direct light and excessive kitchen heat. Keep the pack tightly sealed after every use and handle the ...

Using saffron does not require complicated techniques. A few strands, a short blooming period and careful storage can help bring the desired saffron character to both traditional and modern recipes.
