Modern architects and designers are constantly exploring innovative materials that enhance both the appearance and durability of buildings while keeping long-term maintenance to a minimum.

Decorative wall cladding has become a popular choice for achieving this balance, offering an attractive finish along with added protection against the elements. However, to ensure the best results, proper planning, preparation, and installation are essential. From selecting the right materials to following correct techniques of cladding installation in Sydney, every step plays an important role in the performance and longevity of the cladding. In this blog, we'll share some practical tips to help ensure a successful wall cladding installation.

Taking Setting into Consideration
There are many different types of cladding on the market, each with unique qualities like price, attractiveness, longevity, upkeep, durability, and suitability for a given environment. Therefore, choosing cladding should take into account the environment in which it will be installed in addition ...
... to its aesthetic appeal. Because exterior and interior grade cladding have different characteristics, the choice should be made with the intended use in mind.

Dealing with Electrical Systems
When installing wall cladding, it's important to consider the location of existing electrical systems. The cladding should never block access to electrical connections, switchboards, or fuse boxes, as these may need to be inspected or serviced in the future. Proper cladding installation in Sydney also helps reduce the risk of overheating, electrical faults, or accidental contact with wiring. If electrical fixtures are located behind the cladding, ensure suitable access points are incorporated into the design. Should any wiring or electrical outlets need to be relocated to accommodate the cladding, it's always best to hire a qualified electrician to carry out the work safely and in accordance with electrical regulations.

Using Right Battens and Adhesives
The cladding is supported by timber battens that are pinned to the ceiling or walls before the cladding is attached. On walls, battens are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the cladding boards. Each batten should be spaced 400 mm apart. Heavy objects like radiators and basins are placed in wider battens. When mounting cladding on a smooth, fine surface, use a strong adhesive. The glue should be resistant to heat and water in addition to having a strong binding.

Preparing Cladding
Before putting up the cladding, it has to be prepared to ensure you get the perfect finish. To remove dust and other debris, it's crucial to wipe the cladding with a moist cloth or cleaner. After sanding the cladding's exterior, vacuum the dust. Ensure that every cladding panel is precisely aligned with its neighbours by processing the corners and edges. Then, to avoid distorting the wood, apply two final coats to the surface.
