Start by cutting your cigar at the closed end (or head). A cigar should not be cut until it's ready to be smoked. Hold the cigar with one hand, and your cigar guillotine with the other. Insert the cigar head into the guillotine and cut the end around 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch down. Aim to create a big enough opening to comfortably smoke the cigar, but ensure the original cigar shape is maintained. The bull's eye on the cigar can be found at the point where the cap meets the cigar wrapper, leaving enough space to make sure enough of the cap is left surrounding the wrapper, preventing it from falling off.

After cutting the head, it's time to light your cigar. To prevent other flavors being introduced into the cigar, a butane lighter is preferred. If you only have wooden matches, try to use longer matches and wait until the sulphur has burned off before you start to light your cigar.

Use one hand to light your lighter, then hold the cigar around the band using your thumb, index finger, middle finger and ring finger (if required), then place the cigar in your mouth. Place the foot (end) of the cigar just above the lighter ...
... flame without actually touching the it. Begin drawing on the cigar, then start to slowly rotate the cigar. Continue puffing and rotating your cigar until the outer edge starts to glow and the smoke starts to draw easily.

The best way to smoke a cigar from this point is to take it very slowly and to not draw too often, as this can cause the cigar to heat too much and will ruin the flavor. Draw back on the cigar about once per minute. Don't inhale the smoke - just taste it in your mouth and blow it out.

After about 12 puffs you can remove the cigar band. The band is only in place to stop the tobacco tearing, and isn't required once you have started smoking.
Finally, enjoy smoking your cigar! You might like to try glass of port, scotch, cognac, bourbon or red wine, which will enhance the smoking experience even more.
