Sydney is an incredible destination, top of the list of places to see before they die for so many people. Even those who are fortunate enough to have been there and experienced the city for themselves, they all come back filled with glowing praise for this Australian gem.

Whatever you''re seeking on your holiday, Sydney most definitely has it: fantastic beaches where you can lounge in the sun; smart shops and boutiques to buy something special for yourself or to take back home; engaging, fascinating museums; top bars and restaurants too. As well as all this, the iconic landmarks which make Sydney''s and even the entire country''s identity in the consciousness of the rest of the world have to be seen too. Indeed, plenty of Brits head there for a holiday and end up coming back to make the move for good.

The best place to start in Sydney is the harbour. The world-famous Darling Harbour is a splendid example of a successful waterfront development, of which the locals are rightly proud.

Most journeys through Sydney begin at the harbour. Darling Harbour is now world famous. It was one of the first successful waterfront ...
... developments in the world and what at a development it has become.

When darkness falls however, Darling Harbour comes to life in a whole different way, with a great casino, the Lyric Theatre and the Star Theatre, as well as more great nightlife spots. Young or old, the place offers a great deal for you to enjoy.

Head towards Millers Point so that you can take in the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which is truly beyond words. Before then however you can even go and have a look at the Sydney Observatory, the Rocks Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art too.

From there, the Sydney Opera House awaits you, with the splendid Royal Botanic Gardens there in the background. As well as being an incredible, eye-catching landmark known and recognised all over the world, inside you can enjoy some fantastic, world-class opera if you so desire.

There is great choice when it comes to hotels around Sydney too, with modern, cosmopolitan, chic places for you to stay.

With the most luxurious to be found near Darling Harbour and Oxford Street, you''ll find accommodation to suit a more modest budget across the Bridge at Manly or around the Bondi and Coogee areas. Whatever you''re looking for, in Sydney you are sure to find it. Bonny Kominek is a travel writer with a fondness for Australasiantravel. They recommend Octopus Travel for Sydney hotels.
