Not all trips need to be experienced only upon reaching your destination; sometimes, they are already remembered even before you arrive there.
The family vacation to Udaipur from Delhi wasn’t merely to attend a wedding ceremony. This experience comprised lots of laughter at the roadside dhabas, singing antakshari until our throats were hoarse, unexpected rains, tea breaks at night, and staying together for close to 14 hours without anybody opting out of the discussion.
In retrospect, I feel that taking the Tempo Traveller for rent Delhi was the wisest thing we did.
This is not an account of travel advice but the story of one remarkable family wedding.

The Wedding That Brought Everyone Together

And everything began when, in January, my cousin, Rohit Sharma, declared his marriage.
The place was Fateh Garh Palace in Udaipur, and almost all family members were coming from Delhi.
At first, everybody proposed to use separate cars.
My uncle had an SUV.
My cousin preferred driving in his own car.
One family member offered to book tickets for the train journey.
But, ...
... calculating the cost of fuel, tolls, and parking fees at the hotels, and organizing four different cars, we understood that we would spend half the journey just waiting for each other.
Then my elder brother, Amit, proposed a Tempo Traveller hire in Delhi.
Honestly, we did not expect at all how much this idea would change our journey.

Why We Chose One Tempo Traveller Instead of Four Cars

Eighteen family members were traveling together.

These were:
• Grandparents
• Parents
• Five cousins
• Four kids
• Two uncles
• Three aunties
With many cars, some people would arrive early, while others would arrive late due to traffic, etc.
Some people would be caught in traffic.
Some would want to take a rest.
Some would take wrong turns.
We hired a comfortable 20-seater Tempo Traveller instead.
Everyone had their own seat.
There was ample space for our luggage, which consisted of our wedding clothes, presents, suitcases, as well as two big boxes of sweets that my grandmother wanted to carry personally.

The Journey Began Before Sunrise

Our driver, Mahesh Ji, arrived outside our house in Dwarka, Delhi, at exactly 5:15 in the morning.
Before leaving, my mother distributed homemade aloo parathas packed in foil.
Within fifteen minutes of starting the journey, breakfast had already begun inside the vehicle.
Someone was passing a pickle.
Someone wanted more butter.
The children had already occupied the last row.
And the elders were discussing wedding rituals.
It didn't feel like traveling.
It felt like home on wheels.

The First Stop at Neemrana

We halted at Neemrana at around 8:30 AM for tea.
The atmosphere was nice.
Kachoris were fresh out of the fryer.
Grandpa did not want to stay on the café premises.
Rather, he stood next to the traveller along with his cup of tea and started narrating stories of his travel to Rajasthan through a bus almost forty years back.
These fifteen minutes turned out to be among the most cherished moments of the trip.

Antakshari Took Over the Highway

If you have ever traveled with Indian families, you would know what’s going to happen now.
Antakshari.
No one had planned this.
No one had announced this.
This just happened.
Songs from old times were sung by my aunt.
My younger cousin knew only songs that came into Bollywood after 2015.
Children invented lyrics every time they forgot the lyrics.
Our driver also smiled sometimes.
No one asked how much more time was left.

Lunch Near Ajmer

Around 1.30 p.m., we had our stop at a clean highway dining place outside Ajmer.
Everyone ordered a different item.
Dal Baati Churma.
Paneer Lababdar.
Missi Roti.
Jeera Rice.

But somehow or other, everyone’s plate was their own plate.
The taste of food changes on the roads.
Perhaps because no one feels rushed.

Entering Udaipur Felt Magical

As evening came closer, the Aravalli hills gradually emerged into our view.
The roads had become picturesque.
It felt cooler.
The excitement within the traveller was becoming evident.
Lake Pichola was seen from afar.
Yet another cousin began recording videos for Instagram.
Despite being on the road for almost fourteen hours, none seemed to be tired.
This was something that shocked all of us.

The Wedding Was Beautiful, But the Journey Became the Real Memory

The entire wedding was breathtakingly beautiful.
Decorations
Rajasthani folk music
Turbans
Fireworks
Family pictures
There wasn’t anything that could go wrong.
But as we were sitting down to have our dinner, all we ended up talking about was the trip rather than the wedding.
“Don’t you remember the time that Uncle spilled his tea?”
“Who was it that had forgotten the Bluetooth speaker?”
“Who was it that cheated in Antakshari?"

Why Hiring a Tempo Traveller Was Worth Every Rupee

In retrospect, I believe we couldn't have had the same experience in individual cars.
We were all in it together.
We laughed together.
We ate together.
There was no worry about who would drive.
There was no hassle finding a place to park.
There was no separating into individual units.
Our grandparents traveled comfortably.
The kids were kept entertained.
And everyone arrived together.
Comfort is sometimes more than having larger seating.

What We Learned From This Trip

Do not separate from the group if you travel with more than ten individuals.
Have homemade snacks in your backpacks.
Plan to leave early in the morning.
Select a guide who is familiar with the route.
Take a Bluetooth speaker.
Do not create a tight schedule.
The most memorable moments occur at unplanned stops.

Would I Choose a Tempo Traveller Again?

Without giving it a second thought.
No matter whether it is a marriage ceremony, a family trip, a spiritual tour, or a weekend holiday, I would prefer to Urbania Tempo Traveller in Delhi rather than arranging for more than one vehicle.
Money saving isn’t the only factor behind it.
Some memories can only be created if everyone travels together.
Years from now, I may not recall the exact menu served during the wedding ceremony.
However, I will always cherish the moments I spent with my grandmother while singing old songs en route to Jaipur and Udaipur.

Planning a Family Wedding Trip?

A Tempo Traveller is the most convenient way to ensure that all your family members stay together throughout the trip, should you choose to hold a destination wedding in a place like Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mussoorie, Shimla, Manali, or any other place in North India.
Travelling as a group makes an ordinary road journey memorable when you use a 9-seater, 12-seater, 16-seater, or Maharaja Tempo Traveller or a luxurious Urbania.
