Feel At Home In Rome
The glorious Italian capital of Rome is one of the world''s most famous cities. Its iconic landmarks are recognised almost anywhere. Visitors come from all around the globe in order to see for themselves the majestic sights, experience the captivating romantic culture, and indulge in the enormous sense of history and heritage that the place has to offer.
Rome''s incredible depth of history is on show all around, wherever you wander. Moreover the sublime climate, so typical of the Mediterranean, makes it an ideal location to spend a break on the continent.
Rome is not a city that is famous for its green spaces, but after a long day exploring some of the most famous tourist sites in the world, it''s the parks that are some of the best places to spend a long evening. One such park is the Villa Celimontana, up a long hill behind the Colosseum it is one of the areas that is less well known to tourists and has a much more relaxed atmosphere than regions like Trastevere.
Rome is best known for its majestic imperial monuments like the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus. However its green spaces are highly under-recognised, ...
... and provide some splendid spots where you can while away the time at the end of a busy day exploring the city. Head to the Villa Celimontana up the hill behind the Colosseum for a perfect retreat, less well known among tourist visitors who flock to the busiest places.
During the summer months you''re in for a treat, as you''ll be able to listen to some live jazz at the park''s outdoor bar. Even though it is costly to get in to the park and to buy drinks, it is well worth it simply for the wonderful atmosphere, the green surroundings, and the chance to relax.
Alternatively try the Isola Tibernia, the Tiber''s island which is always bursting with excitement, and is a great place to spend a good evening with plenty of great bars, perfect spots where you can go for a walk along the shore, and even an outdoor cinema showing great stuff in the warmer summer months.
Cars aren''t allowed on the island, which is a great blessing as you''ll soon discover once you''ve spent some time confronting the oftentimes perilous traffic around Rome''s centre. Furthermore it isn''t far from Trastevere, giving it an ideal location if you''re staying in one of the many hotels in the area.
In all, Rome is a superb holiday destination. A fantastic city with a glorious past etched into the stone on every wall. Bonny Kominek is a travel writer with a fondness for Italiantravel. They recommend Octopus Travel for Rome hotels.
