The recent news that nPower have taken over sponsorship of the English football league appears to be one of the shrewdest and most high profile examples of a utilities company branching out in recent times. Both nPower electricity and gas will notice a sharp increase in business after affiliating themselves with a competition that attracts millions of viewers every week. To coincide with their sponsorship beginning, nPower energy deals will surely see electricity and gas prices fall further. But what will be the noticeable effect of the deal to the average consumer? Will there be any at all other than having to say your football team plays in a different league from now on?

But I Don't Like Football, What Difference Does It Make To Me?
Surely nPower themselves will not be the only group of people who will benefit from the deal between one of the biggest domestic energy suppliers and the football league. As consumers we can probably look forward to:

Better electricity prices.
Better gas prices.
Better combined energy prices.
An improvement in service given to the customer.

The deal between the two will obviously raise the profile of nPower as a company and the growth that they can look forward to should hopefully rub off in a positive way on the consumer. A great man (or men seeing as the phrase has been used by so many different people) once said; With great power comes great responsibility. If we apply this to nPower then as their market share grows and they gain more customers they will treat all customers better and offer better prices to keep them.

The only real problem with nPower starting their sponsorship with the football league is that it'll sound weird to football fans everywhere for a little while. The man who reads the scores out on a Saturday afternoon will start by saying; the nPower football league championship... Most football fans will switch off because they'll think it's not their league and miss the first few results. Nightmare. We only just got used to calling it the Coca-Cola championship instead of division one after all.
