Passive fire elements are more than just materials which help resist fire outbreaks. The fire protection industry offers severe limitations with respect to accessing passive fire elements. A few decades back, the suppliers were seen being dependent on only a handful number of companies, but with time and with a steady rise in demand, a lot of companies have evolved in order to meet the growing needs of the market.
Furthermore, if we go back to what the situation was, even a few decades back, we can clearly see how the main constraint cantered around extensive development cycles coupled with vague safety standards, causing extensive debates to arise especially around the testing systems and applications which sometimes lacked specific frameworks.
Even though the situation persisted for a longer span, the passive fire industry at one point of time, witnessed the evolution of robust frameworks and standards that certified penetration withstanding ability of the material.
During the 70’s, the fire-resistant industry largely remained misunderstood or underdeveloped. It was dominated by only a few suppliers ...
... followed by frequently misused practices by ethical manufacturers. Back then there was a lack in general awareness on passive fire elements. Fire stopping was merely brought to the forefront and was mainly ignored because of knowledge gap.
However, major fire outbreaks led to the formation of passive fire companies in Sydney. The industry started witnessing major changes and a lot of people were constantly being educated and informed about the downsides of fire outbreaks. While early years saw the evolution of mineral fibres later the industry brought in changes with fire stopping elements which when engaged or installed helped property owners save their assets, people and properties from facing havoc. The early 2000s saw the evolution of intumescent coating and other passive fire elements that play a major role in restricting fire, flame and smoke.
With an increase in demand for passive fire elements, specialist companies started to emerge. They started focussing in fire prevention and protection. The progress even though was slow, later took pace as latest technologies evolved to create robust elements which came out to be more effective than the older passive fire elements.
The huge fire events led, builders to consider integration of passive fire elements into the framework in order to make buildings stronger against fire outbreaks. Passive fire protection has indeed changed the perspective. Its now considered a fundamental choice for the construction industry.
These are hence the reasons for the rising importance of passive fire installations.
