Bar Mitzvah marks a momentous event in the life of a thirteen year old Jewish boy. It is the culmination of his Jewish education and the celebration of his transition from being a child to becoming a full-grown man. Although bar mitzvahs are often thought out as a big party, it translates more than that.
Bar Mitzvah celebrations are very meticulous that it takes months or even a year of preparation before the event takes place. It is a celebration of the young man's spiritual awareness as it is the start of the day where he is commanded to follow the Jewish laws and become accountable to their own actions.
A religious ceremony is held on the day or days after the actual thirteenth birthday of the boy, depending upon the Jewish calendar. His father will also make his speech about being freed from his responsibilities on the child as the child is now responsible for his own actions.
