Noticing a wet patch near your tank base, a dripping fitting, or a visible crack in the wall? Before you start pricing a replacement, there's a strong chance your tank can be saved — for a fraction of the cost.

Here's what Sunshine Coast homeowners should know.

How Does Plastic Welding Actually Work?

Plastic welding is not a patch or a glue. According to Wikipedia's entry on plastic welding, a bead of softened plastic is laid into the joint, and the parts and weld rod fuse — creating a bond at a molecular level.

For polyethylene tanks specifically, professional Plastic Welding Tank Repair Service use extrusion welders that deliver consistent, controlled heat. Plastic welding creates a permanent bond on the molecular level between two surfaces of plastic, restoring the integrity and original strength of the damaged article.

The result, when done correctly: a weld that is as strong as — or stronger than — the original material.

What Damage Can Be Repaired?

Searching for Plastic Welding Near Me ...
... on the Sunshine Coast? Here's what local specialists can typically fix:

• Hairline cracks and stress fractures

• Split side walls (including slimline tanks)

• Cracked or damaged inlets and outlets
• Bulging or collapsed tank roofs

• Impact damage from machinery or falls

• Leaking seams on round and rural poly tanks

What Can't Be Repaired?

A trustworthy Plastic Welding Sunshine Coast specialist — particularly one who doesn't sell new tanks — will give you an honest assessment. Independent repairers who do not sell rainwater tanks are non-biased and are not there trying to sell you a new poly tank when you've called them out to repair one.

Why Not Just Replace It?

Consider the real cost of replacement. According to manufacturer Bushmans Tanks, a 10,000L poly tank alone starts from around $2,195 — before delivery, removal of the old tank, and reinstallation.

A professional Plastic Welding Tank Repair Service on the Sunshine Coast typically costs a fraction of that. Repairing your tank is much more affordable than buying a new one, and repairs extend the life of your tank while reducing waste and minimising the environmental impact associated with manufacturing and transporting a new tank.

What to Do Right Now?

If your tank is leaking, here are the immediate steps:

• Mark the water level inside the tank

• Turn off pumps and stop all water usage for 24 hours

• Check if the water level drops — this confirms an active leak

• Take clear photos of the damage from multiple angles

• Contact a local plastic welding Sunshine Coast specialist — many offer free quotes from photos alone

Plastic Tank Repairs Sunshine Coast provides free upfront on-site fixed quotes and same-day repairs, with over 20 years of experience and fully licensed and insured technicians.

Bottom line:

For most cracked or leaking poly tanks on the Sunshine Coast, plastic welding is a proven, permanent, and cost-effective fix. The key is calling an independent specialist who will give you an honest answer — repair or replace — before any work begins.
