Medigap insurance is the other name Medicare supplement insurance plan and there are total 12 Medigap plans available for selection. The uniqueness of Medigap insurance plans is that the plan needs to be adapted in accordance to the existing Medicare policy therefore before selection of any Medigap insurance plan it is important to understand the coverage of these plans individually. An overview of basic Medigap insurance plans respectively will be helpful in deciding the best suitable plan for you.

Although there are different medicare supplemental insurance companies but Medigap insurance plans are all same for all these companies and are denoted by A-L alphabets in cumulative way. However like other side of a coin, although Medigap insurance plans and their coverage are all same with all companies but the rate of premium may vary from one service provider to another.

Medigap insurance Plan A benefits

Additional coverage for Medicare part -A coinsurance from 61 to 90 days for hospice care.

Coverage for Part-A coinsurance amount for 91 days up to 15o days for each of Medicare 60 lifetime reserve ...

After complete utilization of hospital benefits coverage of 100% of the Medicare Part A eligible hospital expenses.

Due coverage of 80% for medical emergency during abroad travel after calculation of the deductible
Due coverage for at-home recovery expenses; this facility includes an amount dedicated to short termed at home assistance with essential activities of daily living like dressing, bathing, maintaining personal hygiene etc. in order to get recovered from certain long-term illness, injury effect, or from pain and trauma of surgery.

Coverage provided by Medigap Plan E

All the basic benefits of medicare Part-A
Due coverage for Medicare Part-A inpatient hospital deductible
Due coverage for skilled nursing facility co-insurance amount
80% coverage medical emergency care in any foreign country health care set up after a certain deductible
Plan E covers the expense of preventive medical care; it provides benefits for annual health check ups like hearing test, thyroid function test, serum cholesterol screening etc.

Medigap insurance basic plans are low- premium plans. However, those have no previous medical history and not suffering from any chronic disease may consider for qualifying for the basic plans. Once the eligibility criteria sets in for qualifying for medicare supplemental insurance plans, any of the basic Medigap plan can serve the purpose of supporting original medicare policies.
