A fiber circulator is a passive, non-reciprocal optical device used in fiber-optic networks to direct light signals from one port to the next in a unidirectional, sequential manner. Unlike simple optical couplers or splitters, a fiber circulator ensures that light entering one port exits through the next designated port only, preventing it from traveling backward. How a Fiber Circulator Works


A typical fiber circulator has three or four ports. In a 3-port circulator, light entering Port 1 exits through Port 2, light entering Port 2 exits through Port 3, and light entering Port 3 exits through Port 1 (in some configurations).
