When Mumbai is mentioned these days, there is more that springs to the mind than a huge population and slums. The government body charged with the development of the district, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has so far done a great job. As far as I could see, over 19 hectares of marshy land had been reclaimed and developed with construction completed in the block ‘E' to provide office accommodation. The total space that these offices occupy is about 174, 000square meters and will accommodate about 17, 000 jobs. The BKC as a whole is meant to provide an estimated 200, 000 jobs upon completion.
One thing I found truly amazing is the number of enterprises that have keyed into the vision behind this project. It seems they were just waiting for this to start. I could count so many of the big enterprises and more, I hear are still coming. The American School of Bombay, Dow Chemicals, Bharat Diamond Bourse and Asian Heart Institute are just a few of these. The government as far as I could see was also aggressively promoting the project. Additionally, the district offers a proximity to the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Visitors can get a cheap airline offering cheap flights to Mumbai at this famous airport.
Locating BKC is also quite easy as is navigating within the district. The best route to BKC is from the Bandra station and one you are within the district, I guarantee that you cannot miss your way except the driver cannot read road signs which are abundant there. In addition to constructing buildings, BKC has is also building a reputation for Exhibition and corporate education. Network marketing seminars are held in BKC on a regular basis while entertainment is also in the mix now with famous artistes like Beyonce, Shakira, 50 Cent and Roger Waters performing there recently.
