Banten. SUN Energy, Indonesia’s leading commercial and industrial (C&I) solar developer, has officially solidified its position as the number one rooftop solar developer in the country after reaching a major milestone of 200 MW operating capacity since its establishment in 2016. This achievement was celebrated at the facility of Lami Packaging Indonesia (LamiPak) in Cikande, Serang, Banten, one of the largest rooftop solar projects in the aseptic packaging industry with a total capacity of 5.33 MW.

By mid-2025, SUN Energy had developed more than 300 rooftop solar projects across 20 provinces, serving over 50 industrial sectors ranging from Fast Moving Consumer Goods or FMCG (5.5%), automotive (2.8%), food & beverage (5.2%), to mining (6.2%). SUN Energy’s client portfolio includes major corporations such as Unilever, Avian, Ajinomoto, Astra Group, and now LamiPak.

The total 200 MW of rooftop solar developed by SUN Energy is estimated to generate more than 295 million kWh of clean energy annually and reduce carbon emissions by up to 228,000 tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to planting more than 3.1 ...

“Since the very beginning, our vision has been to position SUN Energy as the primary partner for industries in the energy transition. With this 200 MW milestone, we officially affirm our position as the number one rooftop solar developer in Indonesia,” said Emmanuel Jefferson Kuesar, CEO of SUN Energy. “However, this is not the finish line; it is the starting point of our transformation.”

He explained that SUN Energy is now moving beyond Solar-as-a-Service, expanding into Sustainability-as-a-Service, delivering integrated solutions that cover solar energy, energy storage, fleet electrification (fleet-as-a-service), and the electric vehicle ecosystem, as well as water management.

“We aim to ensure that the energy transition not only boosts business competitiveness but also creates a positive impact for the environment and society at large,” he said.

The adoption of rooftop solar across industrial, commercial, and household sectors is a strategic pathway to accelerate the utilization of Indonesia’s vast solar potential, according to Andriah Feby Misna, Director of Various New and Renewable Energy, MEMR, who joined virtually at the 200 MW celebration event.

Andriah cited 2024 data from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry showing that installed solar capacity nationwide was approximately 900 MW.

“So it is remarkable that SUN Energy alone has achieved 200 MW,” Andriah said.

One of the key contributions to SUN Energy’s milestone comes from LamiPak Indonesia, which began its clean energy transformation in 2024 through the development of a first-phase 2.8 MWp rooftop solar project. This success paved the way for the realization of the second phase at 2.4 MW, bringing the total capacity to 5.33 MW. This solar installation is projected to generate 7.1 GWh of clean energy annually and reduce carbon emissions by 5,645 tons of CO₂, equivalent to planting 91,130 trees.

As a leading aseptic packaging manufacturer, LamiPak is at the forefront of the industry with high standards in innovation and quality. As the first aseptic packaging producer in Indonesia, the company serves both domestic and international markets with products that guarantee food integrity, safety, and hygiene. Sustainability has become an integral part of LamiPak’s global business strategy, making the investment in rooftop solar at its new Cikande plant aligned with its efforts to deliver solutions that are both competitive and environmentally responsible.

“For LamiPak, rooftop solar investment is a strategic step toward achieving our Zero Nett Carbon Roadmap 2050, while ensuring that business growth is aligned with environmental responsibility. This project proves that clean energy can go hand in hand with international industrial standards,” said Anton Hui, Managing Director of LamiPak Indonesia.

The collaboration between LamiPak Indonesia and SUN Energy demonstrates that the energy transition can be achieved through concerted efforts by the government, business, and community members, said Muhammad Joharifin, General Manager of state-owned electricity company PLN’s Banten office,

“PLN is fully committed to supporting Indonesia’s journey toward net zero emissions by 2060. We are delivering this commitment through various service innovations, provision of green infrastructure, and strategic partnerships with key stakeholders,” he said.

Beyond 200 MW: SUN Energy’s Value Proposition and Future Outlook

SUN Energy emphasized that this milestone is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new chapter in delivering greater value to industry partners. Moving forward, SUN Energy will expand its contributions through:

1. Technology & Efficiency

Integration of energy storage systems (BESS), efficient inverters, and digital monitoring solutions to support 24/7 industrial operations.

2. Integrated Ecosystem

Backed by SUN Group, SUN Energy provides not only solar energy systems but also comprehensive services for the green industrial transition, including solar components and efficiency solutions (SUN Terra), fleet electrification and EV ecosystem solutions (SUN Mobility), and sustainable water management technology (NIRA).

3. ESG Commitment

Through the pillars of SUNSHINE (Environmental), SUN RISE (Social), and SUN RAY (Governance), the company drives industrial decarbonization, public education, and the adoption of best-in-class HSE and governance standards.

SUNSHINE focuses on industrial decarbonization through rooftop solar and green technologies such as efficient inverters and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). SUN RISE has engaged over 40,000 participants in renewable energy education. Meanwhile, SUN RAY upholds Good Corporate Governance (GCG) principles and rigorous Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards, reflected in three HSE certifications and the publication of a corporate sustainability report.

With this foundation, SUN Energy is strategically positioned to accelerate the energy transition and empower more industries to move toward a green, globally competitive future. Above all, SUN Energy is ready to accelerate the implementation of the green industry and serve as a key pillar in Indonesia’s national energy transition toward Net-Zero Emissions by 2060.
