Cricket enthusiasts in India have a new rising star to watch: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old batting sensation, has made headlines by breaking a prestigious youth cricket record previously held by Pakistan captain Babar Azam. With the ICC Under-19 World Cup on the horizon, Suryavanshi’s achievement signals the emergence of one of India’s brightest young talents.

Young Talent, Big Achievement

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the youngest cricketer to score three centuries in Youth One-Day Internationals before turning 15. Babar Azam, who had scored two such centuries during his youth career, now sees his record eclipsed by Suryavanshi’s remarkable feat.

Experts say that accomplishing this milestone at such an early age is rare, highlighting the prodigious talent and mental maturity of the young Indian batter. His innings reflect calmness under pressure, precise shot selection, and exceptional timing, traits often seen only in more experienced players.

Mastering Technique and Temperament

What sets Suryavanshi apart is not just the number of runs but how he scores them. His batting demonstrates ...
... a solid technique, disciplined footwork, and the ability to read bowlers effectively. Coaches have praised his mental resilience, noting that he remains composed even against fast-paced attacks or tricky spin bowling.

Unlike many prodigies who rely purely on power hitting, Suryavanshi combines patience with aggression, building his innings intelligently and capitalizing on scoring opportunities without taking unnecessary risks.

Consistency Across Matches

Suryavanshi’s rise is built on more than individual brilliance. Across multiple Youth ODI series, he has consistently delivered match-winning performances, often rescuing his team from precarious positions. This level of consistency at the U-19 level is a key reason selectors and cricket pundits are paying close attention.

Comparisons With Babar Azam

Breaking a record set by Babar Azam is no small feat. While comparisons are inevitable, cricket experts urge caution, noting that youth records are just the beginning. “Vaibhav has shown immense potential, but the focus should remain on long-term development,” says a former Indian youth coach.

Eyes on the U-19 World Cup

With the Under-19 World Cup approaching, all eyes will be on Suryavanshi. He is expected to be a mainstay in India’s batting lineup, and how he performs on the global stage could determine the next steps of his cricketing journey, including potential domestic franchise opportunities and India A selection.

Looking Forward

At 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already achieved what most young cricketers dream of, setting a new benchmark in youth cricket. His record-breaking performances signal a promising future, not just for him but also for Indian cricket, which continues to nurture young talent through structured development programs.

For cricket fans, Suryavanshi’s journey is one to watch closely. If his current trajectory continues, India may have found a future star capable of dominating at the senior international level in the years to come.
