In Dubai, the Range Rover is more than a car. It is currency. It says you have arrived.
But if you mention you are looking to buy used range rover dubai at a dinner party, someone will inevitably grimace and say:
“Don’t do it. You’ll spend more time at the mechanic than on the road.”
Is that true? Or is it a myth from 20 years ago?
At Kamdhenu Cars, we sell dozens of pre-owned Range Rovers every year. We see the ones that run for 200,000km without a hiccup, and we see the ones that are nightmares.
Here is the truth: Range Rovers are not unreliable. They are just intolerant of neglect.
Here is the reality behind the biggest myths, and how to buy one without regretting it.
The Engine Will Blow Up
Reality: Not if you pick the right one.
In the UAE used market, you will mostly see two engines. Your choice here determines your ownership experience.
The Safe Bet: The V6 Supercharged (SCV6)
The Verdict: Buy This.
Why: The 3.0L V6 is a workhorse. It has plenty of power (340-380 HP) for Dubai highways. Crucially, it runs cooler than the V8. In our desert ...
... climate, heat is the enemy, and the V6 engine bay has more space for airflow.
Reliability Score: 8/10.
The Riskier Thrill: The V8 Supercharged (SCV8)
The Verdict: Proceed with Caution.
Why: This 5.0L monster is thrilling, but it suffers from the “Hot V” problem. The engine is packed so tightly that the immense heat can cook the plastic cooling pipes and rubber gaskets over time.
Reliability Score: 6/10 (unless it has a perfect service history).
The Air Suspension Always Fails
Reality: It is a wear-and-tear item, not a defect.
Range Rovers ride on clouds because of their complex air suspension.
The Truth: Rubber air struts are like tires—they wear out. In the UAE heat, the rubber dries up. You should expect to replace the air struts roughly every 5-7 years.
The Cost: If you go to the main dealer, it is expensive. If you go to a specialist (or buy a warranty package from us), it is a manageable maintenance cost, similar to changing timing belts on a Toyota.
The Check: When viewing a car, look at it from the back. Is it leaning to one side? If yes, walk away.
Electronics are a Nightmare
Reality: Software updates fix 90% of issues.
On 2013-2017 models (L405), users reported lagging infotainment screens or random warning lights.
The Fix: Most of these “ghosts” are cured by a software update at the dealer.
The Real Issue: The only electronic issue we worry about is water ingress. Dubai car washes often use high-pressure jets near the trunk seals. If water gets into the amplifier (located in the boot), the sound system dies. We check for water stains in the trunk on every car we stock.
The Golden Rule: The “FSH” Factor
You can buy a used Toyota without a service history, and it might be fine.
You cannot do that with a Range Rover.
When you browse buy used range rover dubai, filter strictly for “Full Service History” (FSH).
Oil Changes: A Range Rover engine uses high-tolerance parts. If the previous owner skipped an oil change by 5,000km, sludge builds up.
Kamdhenu’s Policy: We do not trade in Range Rovers without proof of service. Period. We know that a cheap Range Rover is the most expensive car you will ever buy.
Price Reality: What Should You Pay?
Don’t be seduced by the cheapest listing on the market.
The “Cheap” One: AED 90,000. It likely has 4 owners, “American Specs” (avoid!), and zero records. You will spend AED 30,000 in the first year fixing it.
The “Smart” One: AED 115,000. GCC Specs, 1 or 2 owners, and a stamped book.
Conclusion: Should You Buy One?
If you want the ultimate driving experience—the commanding view, the silence at 140km/h, the prestige—there is no substitute for a Range Rover. Nothing else feels like it.
Yes, it costs more to maintain than a Nissan Patrol. But if you buy a V6 model with GCC Specs and a Full Service History, you aren’t buying a nightmare. You are buying the best SUV in the world.
Want the Royal treatment without the risk?
We currently have a selection of vetted, inspected, and certified Range Rover Sport and Vogue models. We’ve checked the suspension, the cooling pipes, and the history so you don’t have to.

FAQ Suggestions
Are used Range Rovers reliable in Dubai?
Yes, V6 models with GCC Specs and Full Service History can run 200,000km without major issues.
What’s the difference between V6 and V8 Range Rovers?
V6 engines are cooler and more reliable in UAE heat, while V8 offers more power but is sensitive to high temperatures.
How do I avoid suspension problems?
Inspect for air strut wear; a car leaning to one side is a red flag. Replacements every 5-7 years are normal.
Should I worry about electronics?
Software updates fix most infotainment issues. The main concern is water ingress in the boot affecting the amplifier.
What price range is safe for used Range Rover Dubai?
AED 115,000+ for GCC Specs, low ownership, and Full Service History is safer than the cheapest listings.
