How The Teacher In This Episode Had Involved The Class More Through The Interaction

By analyzing the transcription of T2's lesson, Ti was able to look at classroom phenomena such as interaction and transactions in a more detached manner. She was not watching a video of a teacher to evaluate,'pick holes', or observe a good practice (Cullen 1991). Instead, she was raising her own awareness to the opportunities that the choice of language could afford her. Vibram Fivefingers Shoes In Episode T2:i, we can see how the other teacher, T2, presented the same language form and how Ti saw the differences between these exchanges and her own.
In subsequent discussions, Ti spoke about how the teacher in this episode had involved the class more through the interaction. The immediate contrast that Ti noted was the amount of participation from the students in this episode compared to her own. (See Episodes Tin and Ti:2.) Though most of the questions asked are display questions in that the answers are already fixed—see, for example, line 3, line 5, line 9—but to Ti, they were examples of how to engage the students. Ti also observed that this teacher did not ...
... provide any of the answers to his own questions. Instead, the students constructed their own understanding of what Bino's mother does every day through the questions and prompts from the teacher. See, for example, line 7. A final point that Ti acknowledged was T2's interactive decision in line 13 to stop the class and give corrective feedback after some of them said 'every day she get up' instead of every day she gets up'.
Ti read the transcription and noted how T2 had personalized many examples from the course book to make it more meaningful to his learners. She also commented on the way in which students showed interest when answering and that they were not afraid to offer ideas. Ti had been struck by the differences in the two lessons as a result of the language that had been employed in both, Reading (Ta's) transcription which covered the same teaching content as me was like looking in a mirror but seeing a very different image looking back. Vibram FiveFinger Discount It was quite surprising to me. To Ti, it was the analysis of another teacher's classroom language rather than evaluative feedback from me or from watching a video-recording of her teaching which prompted consciousness rising. This raised awareness seemed to be a prerequisite for change in her own classroom practices, as the following section describes.
