In a modern architectural world, aluminium cladding becomes the most suitable choice for your home and business. It can increase the richness of visual appearance and provide long-term results. But not all aluminium cladding is the same, it depends on the material you use for the cladding process. Solid aluminium and aluminium composite panels are the two primary materials that are being used for cladding.

Each of these materials has its own benefits and limitations. This blog can help you understand the difference between the materials so you can carry on with your cladding project without any problem.

1. Solid aluminium cladding

Benefits

• Strength and durability: Solid aluminium is a single sheet of strong aluminium that provides significant strength. It can handle the physical impacts in a better way than composite materials. Its strength and impact handling feature can make it the most suitable for industrial building cladding.

• Fire resistance: For high-rise buildings that require following strict fire safety steps, this material can be ideal. It is less reactive to fire and helps ...
... you save your home or corporate buildings from fire hazards and injuries.

• Last for years: The material's rust resistance feature and strength can help you protect your building for more than three decades. You can choose this material without worrying about replacement/repair costs in the near future.

• Recyclable: This panel is made only from aluminium. That's why it not only benefits you as a cladding material, but it can also be used in producing new materials. After years of usage, you can recycle the material for other use.

Disadvantages

• Producing an aluminium panel from raw material is costlier. Overall, a cladding project can require a higher budget than a composite material. It is also heavier in weight, which creates difficulties in transportation and the installation process.

2. Aluminium composite panels (ACP)

A composite panel is a mixture of two thin aluminium layers combined with a centre non-aluminium layer.

Benefits

• Flexibility in designs: ACP are very flexible when it comes to designs, colours and shapes. You can have a variety of options to choose designs and colours which can represent your brand value or your lifestyle. You can design the shapes you want and easily cut or bend the panels to achieve the desired results.

• Lighter in weight and budget friendly: ACP is lightweight, which can be easily transported to the construction site and is easy to install. Composite materials use fewer aluminium materials, which can save you cost on your overall budget. For large-scale projects where you have to be careful with cost, you can choose this material for cladding.

• Improves insulation and flatness: The non-aluminium middle layer can improve the insulation of the building. It can help you manage the required temperature in the building without using electrical appliances. Composite materials provide better flatness, which can reduce the oil canning impact on large building surfaces.

Disadvantages

• Composite panels provide less impact resistance compared to solid aluminium panels. It can be affected by continuous physical abuse, and you have to consider the cost of repairs or replacement. To meet the fire safety code, you have to ensure the material capability to resist fire, as not all composite materials can be fire-resistant. Composite panel is not a pure form of aluminium, and that's why it becomes difficult to recycle composite materials.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a lower cost option and want a wide range of variety in style and colour, then you can choose the solid aluminiumcladding. If you have enough budget to spend and require a fire-resistant material that can also handle the physical impacts, you can choose the solid aluminium panels.
