Scientists have already reported that consuming strawberries, blue berries and acai berries helps the aging brain to be healthy. The research work pertaining to this report was presented at 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS). They further suggested that walnuts along with berries help in activating the natural mechanism of brain which works by cleaning and recycling toxic proteins related to memory loss due to increase in age.
Shibu Poulose, Ph.D., stated that study conducted in the past showed decline in the body's ability to protect itself from inflammation as one of the major factor of aging which leads to chronic brain maladies, heart disease, cancer and other age related troubles. The previous research established that old rats fed in laboratory for 2 months, diet mainly comprising of 2% high-antioxidant strawberry, blackberry, or blueberry extract depicted a turnaround of age-linked shortfalls in nerve operation and reversal of behaviour that includes learning and remembering.
Poulose and Joseph conducted a new research and concentrated ...
... on another cause as to why the functions of the nerve reduce with aging. It engages a decline in the brain's ordinary house-cleaning procedure i.e. cells known as microglia (housekeepers). The biochemical remains are actually removed or recycled via a process called autophagy which would otherwise interfere with the natural functioning of the brain. The findings resulted from research in which Joseph and Poulose have attempted to analyse in detail the constituents involved in the senescing brain's deprivation of normal housekeeping action. Using cultures from the brain cells of the mouse they established that distils of berries suppressed the activity of a protein that reduces the autophagy process.
Poulose stated that the study furnishes further grounds to eat foods rich in polyphenoles. Even though berries and walnuts are wealthy sources, many other fruits and vegetables include these chemicals ― particularly those with deep red, orange, or blue colours. Those colours are due to the anthocyanins pigments which are good antioxidants. He stressed on ingesting the whole fruit, which comprises the full variety of hundreds of healthful chemicals. He concluded by saying that frozen berries, which are obtainable throughout the year also are exceptional sources of polyphenolics.
