1988 World Series Of Poker

. These different types of games are all held, but the main event game is always Texas Hold ‘em. The main event game will always be the most popular and most heavily attended game of all of the different types of poker taking place at the World Series of Poker.
In 1988 the World Series of Poker took another big leap towards becoming the immensely popular event that it is today. The event fielded a record 167 entrants. That would bring the total prize money 1.67 million dollars. This would mean that the winner of the event would bring home 700 thousand dollars. Even the second place player would win nearly 300 thousand dollars. This enormous pot of money would make the stakes higher than they had ever been.
The prize money is contributed by each player. They must pay ten thousand dollars in order to enter the event.
The 1988 World Series of Poker was like many other events before it. The early rounds showed players being eliminated early and often. The total amount of players was cut down quickly as time moved on. Early on some of the best players in the world were eliminated. The tournament progressed ...
... and saw great players such as Johnny Moss without even making the top 36 players.
Eventually the group was broken down until only 9 more players were left standing. This group of players was led by Johnny Chan. Chan had already gotten a chip total of more than 500 thousand. This made him the player with the most chips of any of the remaining players. Other top players were present in this match such as Jesse Alto and Erik Seidel. Alto was at the final table for the 6th time in his career. This would be the last showing that he would ever have at the World Series of Poker final table.
Many of the last 9 players started to fall, such as Mike Cox, Jesse Alto, Quinton Nixon and Jim Bechtel. This left just 5 players on the table as Chan continued to lead the way. Erik Seidel began to make a run for the game as he knocked out the other two players to leave him and Chan standing.
Chan was dealt a great deal in their matchup. He showed his great acting skills as he managed to pick up a straight from the start. Seidel had two of a kind and saw that Chan was reluctant to put his cards in. As the other cards were laid out Chan still looked reluctant and Seidel took courage. He ended up going all in. When he went all in Chan called and ended up showing his straight. This took Seidel by surprise as it appeared that Chan was reluctant to keep in the hand. This single hand made him a legend in the World Series of Poker.
