Cleps Are A Great Way To Earn College Credit

There have been many news stories of students who cannot attend college due to financial hardship, especially since the recession began in 2008. What many people do not know is that college enrollment hit an all-time high in October of 2008, during the worst month of the recession to date. The enrollment was driven by recession-induced record enrollment levels at community colleges. This bears witness to the fact that the tough get going when times are rough.

Another advantage is that the CLEP allows students to skip introductory courses by granting them the credits needed to take advanced courses in their chosen subject area, such as mathematics or biology.

CLEP exams are granted different credits by different colleges; this is because they recognize the CLEP differently depending on the test. According to the College Board, 2,900 colleges and universities recognize the validity of the CLEP. Students have to contact their college to discover their CLEP policy, since each school has a different one. CLEP exams provide an easy way for students to gain credits without wasting time or money learning something they already know. The good news is that CLEP credits can be applied to general education requirements at some colleges, which allows students who participated in the CLEP to bypass those courses.

Students who make the attempt to earn credits through the CLEP need to be aware that there is a minimum score that has to be met for each test in order to gain the credits. Each school has different minimum scores for the CLEP, which is another reason why it is good to maintain contact with the school's official responsible for CLEP policy.
