The Best Attractions To See When You Are In Manchester
Manchester is a highly-cultured and exuberant environment, famous for its musical significance and liberal attitude to the LGBT community. Whilst larger cities such as London and Brighton might appear to have a stronger appeal than Manchester, not only does Manchester offer a beautiful landscape, there are a number of things to see and do.
I have visited the city a number of times, sometimes for only a very short time and never struggle to find a good way to spend the day. Below are just a few of my favourite things to see in this brilliant city.
5. Art Galleries, such as The Whitworth: This gallery has a collection of over 55,000 items, is free to enter and has some of the most interesting pieces in the UK as well as a number of unique exhibits. Approximately a year ago, I went to this gallery to experience 'Kinderzimmer', an exhibit created by Gregor Schneider, which was a large room with no light in at all, save for a small poorly lit room in the distance that contained a dirty-looking mattress. This was a very weird but interesting experience.
4. Manchester Museum: Owned by Manchester University, it ...
... is free to enter and view - it was recently voted as one of the UK's top university museums. Featuring around six million within, such as animal skeletons, live animals within a vivarium, items that date from a number of different eras, as well as dinosaur bones. Exhilarating, interesting and completely free!
3. Gig venues, such as the Manchester Academy: If you enjoy a lot of current bands and new music, then Manchester Academy is the place for you! Music has been at the heart of Manchester the cultural epicentre and the presence of the Manchester Academy reinforces this strongly. Featuring a rich list of scheduled bands such as Ash, Bloody Beetroots, Eels and Mark Ronson, the Academy always has an amazingly electric atmosphere.
2. Trafford Centre: Attracting shoppers from around the world, the Trafford Centre has provided a major draw of people to the wide array of stores inside. The nearby shopping centres have proven very popular with workers with a Manchester office. With an impressively large cinema screen, an excellent food court and premium shops (and independent, smaller outlets), every shopped who visits will be on cloud nine!
1. Lush landscapes: Despite Manchester having a stereotype of an industrial city, it has a large amount of fantastic greenery and some of the most widely-celebrated parks in the UK. Heaton Park is a perfect example of a fantastic attraction, featuring an animal centre, playgrounds and three cafes, among other sights, you can enjoy the fresh air and relax fully. Other recommended parks are Riverside Park, Wythenshawe Park and Queens Park.
It can be even more fun to simply explore Manchester without research and finding out your own personal favourites, these factors can help you to have the perfect day out.
