c) Construction and Design
• Slings must be woven uniformly without visible defects.
• Edges should be reinforced to minimize abrasion.
• Eye terminations (loops at the end) should be durable and protected against wear.
• End fittings (if any) must be compatible with the sling and meet load requirements.

d) Colour Coding and Marking
For quick identification, IS 15041:2001 mandates a colour coding system based on the sling’s working load limit. For example:
• Violet: 1 tonne
• Green: 2 tonnes
• Yellow: 3 tonnes
• Grey: 4 tonnes
• Red: 5 tonnes
• Brown: 6 tonnes
• Blue: 8 tonnes
• Orange: 10 tonnes
In addition, slings must carry labels or tags with essential information:
• Manufacturer’s name
• Safe working load (WLL)
• Length
• Material type

e) Testing and Quality Control
Manufacturers must test slings for:
