At the eastern end of Bodrum you''ll find the beach, which has been augmented by authorities in recent years. This is where you''ll find the expected beach bars, and clubs that open later on in the evening - several of which are open air. The eastern end of Bodrum is where you''ll find yourself when you want to indulge in traditional seaside pursuits, and is the location of many of the Bodrum hotels on the Octopus Travel books.

The western side of the town is more upmarket, dominated as it is by the Marina and Yacht Club. Upmarket boutiques and shops for the yachting set are located here, and the atmosphere is generally more sedate than raucous fun to be had at the eastern side of town. The supermarkets in this area are the most expensive in town as you might expect of establishments catering for the sailing demographic. There are some nice restaurants to be found in this part of town, as well as more Bodrum hotels.

The Museum of Underwater Archaeology is home to the biggest collection of artefacts taken from shipwrecks anywhere in the world, and is well worth an afternoon of anyones time. There are also many attractions of historical and geological interest to be found in the area around Bodrum, so it might be well worth your while hiring a car for a couple of days so that you can explore this area.

Overlooking the harbour and marina is Bodrum Castle, which was built by the Crusaders in the 15th Century. Bodrum Castle is well worth visiting as an architectural and historical attraction in its own right, and additionally, is now home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. The Museum has a vast collection of artefacts taken from the many shipwrecks that now rest on the bottom of the Aegean Sea, wrecks that have accumulated over literally thousands of years. The Museum of Underwater Archaeology and is in fact the largest collection of its kind in the world, and a worthy diversion from the beach.
