New Manga Release
Yeeeah this week’s title is pretty self-explanatory. That’s right, there is a book coming out. I can only stand to guess that this is because that very last week of July was a huge release week, immediately followed by the first week of August’s ginormous release schedule. On a completely unrelated note, according to the computer not underlining the word “ginormous†with a red dotted line, I believe it has been confirmed as an official real word. Thank you Miriam Webster.
So as for our single book that is showing up this week, it is a good one, frankly a book I have been waiting quite a while for. The irony is that it’s not Viz, it’s not Tokyopop, and it’s not eve Yen Press. Weird, right? Actually, the only company on the ball this week is Dark Horse comics. And the book? Bride Of The Water God Volume 6, which is fantastic, gorgeous art, romantic, and funny. So, at the start of this series, Soah was willing to sacrifice her life to the feared god Habaek to save her drought-stricken village ...
... on Earth. However, she wasn’t killed by the powerful Water God-she was rescued and taken to the magical kingdom of Suguk. Once there, she met moody gods of the elements and a mysterious husband who took her as his bride but then spurned her. While Habaek yearns to treat Soah as a proper husband would, he’s cursed to live in the form of a little boy during the day, only reverting to his true adult self at night. Trying to keep this strange secret from Soah, he hides behind the fake identity of “Mui†at night, when he competes with other unusual gods for her attention. Will this be the volume in which the Water God finally spills the truth to Soah-or will other conspiring, jealous gods succeed in driving a permanent wedge between him and his human bride? Cursed and pursued by an unknown, shape-shifting tormentor, Habaek is also led to believe that his previous human bride is still alive!
So, the good news is, we have been and are getting lots of restock in, so since your appetite for new releases may be a bit unsatisfied this week, it is also the perfect time to catch up on other series you have been falling behind in, and maybe even starting a whole new one that’s got a head start. So, what are some good titles you can jump into, and are actually still in print so you don’t hate me when you can’t find issue 4 or whatever? If you like psychopaths, mystery, action, murder, and a bit of fantasy I say check out Future Diary by Sakae Esuno. Basically Yukiteru is a quiet boy who spends most of his time typing on his cell phone diary. One morning he realizes that the entries in his diary are from the future! But according to what his cell phone tells him, waiting in the near future is his death. Unknown to him, Yukiteru has been dragged into a battle of survival involving cell phones that tell the future. With a shady girl named Yuno, who may be friend or foe, at his side, Yukiteru must face 12 opponents who all posses Future Diaries.
Not your style? Ok, this one’s for the ladies. I know everyone out there is super hot for vampires and werewolves right now. I know we’ve always loved them, I mean Underworld, and Anne Rice aside, it seems thanks to Twilight, we as a nation are flat-out horny for them. So if you’ve never heard of it, you need to start reading Dance In The Vampire Bund by Nozomu Tamaki. After millennia in hiding, Mina Tepes, the Princess of the ancient covenant and ruler of all vampires, wants change. Using the vast wealth of the Tepes line, she has paid off the entire gross national debt of Japan and in so doing, gained the authority to create a “special district†off the coast of Japan that is to become the future haven to vampires the world over! Now, on the eve of the landmark press conference announcing the existence of vampires to the world, terrorists and rival factions plot to assassinate Mina Tepes before she has a chance to make her world-changing announcement!
That’s all I got this time folks.
