As A Man Thinketh by James Allen

The short but powerful book As A Man Thinketh was written by 19th Century English writer, poet and philosopher James Allen to stimulate people to the truth that you yourself are the maker of yourself by virtue of your thoughts - that is, you are what you think, your character being the complete sum of all of your thoughts, and that you can realise your desires and aspirations by simply using the power of your own thoughts:

"Let a man radically alter his thoughts and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life."

While the work is loosely based on the biblical proverb "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he", it is written in a spiritual vein rather than religious. Allen became recognized as a pioneer of modern inspirational thought and the book has played a significant role in the creation of the entire personal development industry that exists today. As A Man Thinketh is a classic in the truest sense, having stood the test of time and still having a deep impact on the new generations of readers today, indeed ...
... most would agree it is far more profound than many more current attempts on the subjects of the power of thought and positive thinking.

Ultimately, Allen stresses man's responsibility to himself, that "man is made or unmade by himself". Calmness of mind and self control will come to anyone who has a great knowledge of the law of thought, with the ultimate goal being peace and serenity.

The book teaches you how to experience a changed life by helping you to negotiate your way through life with harmony and understanding; it teaches you how your thoughts affect your circumstances, your health and your body, and how to take control of your thoughts in order to achieve your purpose in life. It further teaches you the importance of your dreams, visions and ideals in sculpting your character and fulfilling your most successful destiny in life.

This is a book that can be read over and over, with each line requiring contemplation, and with each reading sure to give you a feeling of peace, enlightenment and hope.
