Cutting The Cost Of Your Calella Holiday

Holidays can be expensive at the best of times, and with the recession showing few signs of abating, many holidaymakers are being forced to cut back on their foreign travel. However, if you are smart about it, there is no reason why you cannot enjoy a relaxing sunshine break on a shoestring.
The beachfront is very much the focal point of the town of Calella, so much so that very few holidaymakers venture outside this area. If all you want to do is relax on a sun-kissed beach for the day, then there can be few better places to do this, and there are plenty of tapas bars and restaurants nearby.
As well as the modern developments around Calella, the old part of the town is still intact too. This beautiful part of Calella, with its old buildings, eateries and bars features hundreds of shops lining its old, winding narrow streets.
The pretty Santa Maria parish church, which features a baroque entrance flanked by sculptures of the twelve apostles, is well worth a visit. Another lovely old building in the area is the Casa dels Salvadors, which dates back to the 1300s, and was formerly the home of the illustrious ...
... Salvador Saga family.
To the south west of the town you can find the ruins of the Torretes de Calella, a line of semaphore towers built in the mid-1800s that reach all the way to the French border. Also nearby is an old lighthouse, which was built in 1859 and is still used today.
The town museum in Calella features twelve exhibition halls which chart the history of the town from pre-Roman times onwards. This is a great way to find out about the history of the town and its people, and contains some very interesting exhibits.
A wonderful place to relax that makes a nice change from the beach is the Dalmua Park. Conveniently located in the centre of town, there is plenty of green space to enjoy, as well as cooling fountains and trees and play areas to keep the children happy too.
If you want to get around the various attractions in Calella more quickly, you can take the tourist mini-train, which takes about half an hour to circle the entire town. However, the town is easily navigable on foot, and if you have the time, this will enable you to take in this laid back town at your own pace. Our guide to travelling to Calella on a budget was written by Bonny Kominek, an experienced travel agent. They recommend checking the Octopus Travel website for the latest Calella hotels and accommodation deals all year round.
