Father's day has become an important festival today. One celebrated with great enthusiasm.

History:

Though we celebrate occasions like father's day religiously, no one ever stops to think how they originated. A study done by historians suggests that 4,000 years ago in Babylon a son called Elmesu carved a fathers day message on a clay card. This could have been the beginning of this festival, but no such event has been recorded after that until a century ago.

The festival as celebrated in this modern age originated in 1909 when a woman, Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd happened to listen to a Mother's day sermon. She was raised by her father after her mother died. For Ms Dodd, her father was a courageous, selfless, and loving man who made all the sacrifices that a mother would, to raise her.

Ms. Sonora celebrated the first father's day on 19th June 1910 in Spokane, Washington. She chose the month of June for the celebration because her father's birthday fell in this month.

A National Father's Day Committee was formed in New York City in 1926. The day was recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress ...
... in 1956. President Richard Nixon, in 1972, established a permanent national observance of Father's Day to be held on the third Sunday of June.

The celebration for this usually involves gift, treat and an activity that their father loves to rejuvenate the bond between them.
