How Individualised Living Options ILO Can Create Meaningful Futures
Aastha Community Services
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) offers a range of home and living supports that enables independent living and enhances the freedom of choice of people with disabilities. Individualised Living Options (ILO) is one such flexible model of disability support that allows NDIS participants to shape their living arrangements based on their needs and goals. Participants can explore and design ILO support with the help of family, friends, and a trusted disability service provider. Under ILO support, participants can choose to live with housemates, a host, or on their own with flexible supports. They can also decide who
lives with them, how they get support, and what independence looks like in their daily life.
Individualised Living Options (ILO) best suits participants aged 18 or older who need at least six hours of support each day and are ready to explore their ideal living setup. It is not suitable for people who require 24/7 rostered care or have restrictive practices in their behaviour support plans. ...
... For participants who meet the eligibility criteria, ILO support is a powerful way to build capability, gain independence, and live life on their own terms. ILO funding occurs in two stages. The first stage, Exploration and Design, focuses on
planning. Participants will decide where they want to live, who they want to live with, and the types of disability support they will need. A disability service provider will work with the participants to create a personalised disability support plan during this stage. This includes both formal NDIS supports and informal support networks such as friends or family members. The second stage provides funding to implement and monitor these supports. The plan might include personal care, help with decision-making, cooking, cleaning, or emotional support. The flexibility of ILOs means supports can be adapted as your needs or living situation change.
If you are looking to explore Individualised Living Options and want personalised support plans, Aastha can help you. As a registered NDIS service provider, we work closely with participants and their support networks to co-design living options that reflect who they are and who they want to become.
